The Mind Cam - Burning Man 2005

Dr. Fabio uses a giant Mind Cam to find what's on your mind, in an anthropological study for the Mind Shaft Society at Burning Man 2005. For more urban thought patterns, check our Mind Cam findings at the Decompression Party.

Our giant Mind Cam uses new psychic refraction technology to capture what's on people's minds. We invited seekers from all over the Playa to share their innermost secrets for posterity. For full coverage of our findings, check our full photo set on Flickr.

We invited participants to write their deep thoughts on a pad and hold it next to their face. We then took their picture, along with that impromptu caption. Those digital photos were then processed overnight, and displayed the next day in the Mind Shaft Society's photo-kiosk.

This quest was inspired by the popular web site “Sorry Everybody”: www.sorryeverybody.com (see sample below)

Also check out our other Burning Man 2005 project, The Mind Rover. Our research workis presented by The Mind Shaft Society, an anthropological association devoted to the study of consensual hallucination. Distinguished members include Dr. Fabio, Dr. Really, Dr. Matisse, Dr. Rheingold and other media juggernauts.

In previous years, our Burning Man Camp has featured a variety of archeological reconstructions, including Inspiration Island, where you could find inspiration from the legendary Bamboodu tribe, as well as an abandoned Mind Shaft where you could undo your bad ideas. Thousands of people have participated in our interactive rituals, which are commemorated online in publications such as the Book of Inspirations and the Book of Bad Ideas.
